Dimensionality of Morphological Knowledge—Evidence from Norwegian Third Graders

This study aimed to determine the dimensionality of morphological knowledge by examining different sources variance. According Morphological Pathways Framework (Levesque et al., Journal Research in Reading, 44, 10–26, 2021), awareness, analysis and decoding are related, but distinct dimensions knowledge. However, multidimensionality might also stem from construct-irrelevant variance due methodological artifacts. We assessed 612 Norwegian third graders on five measures one measure general vocabulary. Fitting a series confirmatory factor (CFA) models, we evaluated both within across tests. Furthermore, fitted three structural equation models (SEMs) explore how conceptualizations affect relationship between vocabulary: five-factor model, bifactor higher-order model representing decoding.
